Glossary Term
Hazmat (Dangerous Goods)
Products containing substances that pose a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment during storage and transport, such as flammable or corrosive materials.
Selling "Dangerous" Products on Amazon
Hazmat isn’t just about chemicals. Items like lithium batteries (in electronics), perfumes, and even some hair sprays are considered dangerous goods by Amazon and shipping carriers. To sell these, you must pass a "Hazmat Review" and provide a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Strict Labeling Requirements for Hazmat
Shipping hazmat requires specific warning labels that alert warehouse staff and drivers to the risks. This includes "Lithium Battery" warnings or "Limited Quantity" stickers. If these labels are missing or the wrong size, your shipment will be rejected immediately at the fulfillment center door.
- Requires specialized storage in FBA warehouses.
- Mandatory warning labels on every outbound box.
- Carriers often charge surcharges for handling dangerous goods.
