Poly Bagging

The process of sealing products in clear plastic bags for protection and organization during fulfillment.

What is Poly Bagging?

Poly bagging is simply putting your product into a clear plastic bag. It’s one of the most common ways to prep items for warehouses like Amazon FBA or Walmart WFS. It keeps your products clean, dry, and safe from dust or light scratches while they move through the busy fulfillment centers.

Safety and Compliance

You can't just use any bag. If a poly bag has an opening of 5 inches or more, most platforms require a 'Suffocation Warning' to be printed on it. This is a legal safety requirement to protect children. Also, the bag must be completely transparent so the warehouse workers can see exactly what is inside.

  • Bags must be at least 1.5 mil thick.
  • Must be transparent (clear).
  • Must be sealed (tape or heat seal).

Labeling Your Bags

Once an item is in a poly bag, the barcode must be scannable without opening the bag. You can either place the FNSKU label on the outside of the bag or make sure it's clearly visible from the inside. If the scanner can't read it through the plastic, your shipment might get rejected.

Best Practices for Sellers

To save time, many sellers use 'self-seal' bags which have a sticky strip already attached. This is much faster than using a heat sealer. Always try to pick a bag size that is a close fit for your product; loose plastic can get caught in conveyor belts and cause delays.
