Glossary Term
Shipping Mark
The mandatory information printed on the outside of a master carton or crate to identify the contents, destination, and handling requirements for customs and carriers.
The ID Card for Your Boxes
Shipping marks are essential for international freight. They usually include the consignee (you), the destination port, the carton number (e.g., 1 of 50), and the gross/net weight. Without these, a warehouse worker has no idea what’s in the box without opening it, and customs might hold the shipment for inspection.
Digital vs. Manual Shipping Marks
Instead of using a thick marker to write on every box, you can generate professional shipping mark labels. Including a barcode that links to your **Packing Slip** or **Box Content** info makes your shipment much more professional and easier to process through a 3PL.

- Should include any "Warning" symbols (Fragile, This Side Up).
- Essential for resolving disputes with freight forwarders.
