Glossary Term

Carton Content Label (2D)

A 2D barcode that contains detailed information about the items inside a specific shipping box.

The 'Smart' Barcode

A standard barcode just identifies a product. A 2D Carton Content barcode is much smarter. It contains a list of everything inside that specific box. Instead of telling Amazon 'I am sending 50 shirts,' this barcode says 'This box has 10 Red M shirts and 5 Blue L shirts.'

Why Use 2D Labels?

Amazon requires you to provide box content information for every FBA shipment. You can either type it manually into Seller Central (which is a nightmare for large shipments) or use 2D barcodes. When the warehouse scans a 2D label, they instantly know what's inside without opening the box yet.

  • Faster receiving at Amazon warehouses.
  • Avoids 'manual processing' fees.
  • Saves hours of data entry in Seller Central.

Technical Requirements

These aren't your typical long-and-thin barcodes. They are square, pixelated codes (like QR codes). They need to be printed with high clarity. If a single 'pixel' in that square is blurry or smeared, the warehouse scanner might fail, and you'll be back to manual processing.

Implementation

To use 2D labels, you first need to enable the option in your Seller Central shipment settings. Then, you can use a labeling tool to generate the barcodes based on your packing list and print them directly onto your thermal labels.
